Shedding the Pounds After 55: My Weight Struggle and Call for Advice From Medium Readers
Senior Pounds: Packing On The Weight and Why It’s So Hard to Slim Down?
This is one of those articles that almost never got written. Because it would require that I admit to you, dear readers, that I’ve put on a whopping 48 pounds, and I can’t seem to get rid of them.
I’ve tried it all — cutting out sugar, reducing carbs, eating more vegetables, taking supplements — but my behind still looks like it’s the size of Texas! It’s not like I live an unhealthy lifestyle. I’ve been sober for four and a half years, I’m active in my community, but in the one area of losing weight, I feel defeated. Worse, I’m embarrassed about my weight.
So, I thought I’d bring it to the readers here at Medium, find out how you’ve lost weight, if any, and what works for you. I invite all comments, particularly from those over 55, since I’m a part of that demographic.
There are two areas that, admittedly, I’m not good at — exercising and fasting. I’d almost rather get a root canal than engage with either on any given day. But don’t dare say I’m lazy, because I’m not. I have really bad arthritis in my knees, which makes exercising challenging for me. And if you think I’m exaggerating, one of my doctors just recommended double knee surgery. No thank…
