College Educated: This Is My Story — Walking the Tightrope
“I am not homeless. I am college educated and employed. I have a family. I’m not out robbing people to get my fix. So I’m not your stereotypical junkie living in a van under the bridge. But could that be my future? Who knows? I’ve never tried heroin, but had I not found a sympathetic doctor, who knows? I suspect my story is not unique.”
My journey into the realm of painkillers began five years ago. It all started with a condition I had never heard of — testicular varicosele. Back then, I was a college student without insurance, and the road ahead was daunting. My history as a recovering alcoholic added an extra layer of caution; I knew I was walking on thin ice when it came to addiction. Determined to stay clear of the treacherous path of opiates, I battled on. But sometimes life has its own plans.
